Former President Ziaur Rahman’s 43rd death anniversary today is May 30. On this day in 1981, he was killed by a group of army personnel in Chittagong Circuit House. On the occasion of his death anniversary, BNP and its affiliated organizations have undertaken a 15-day program.
Ziaur Rahman was one of the sector commanders of the Liberation War and the captain of Z Force.He is also the founder of BNP, one of the main political parties in Bangladesh.
The program of the day will begin with party flags being half-mast and hoisting of black flags in all offices including the central office of BNP in Dhaka’s Nayapaltan on Thursday morning. In the morning, BNP leaders will pay their respects at Ziaur Rahman’s tomb by placing wreaths. Milad mahfil and voluntary blood donation program will be held in the tomb premises.A free medical camp will be organized by DAB in front of the party office in Nayapaltan. Dhaka Metropolitan BNP will distribute food to the needy on this day.
On the occasion of the death anniversary of Ziaur Rahman, a discussion meeting was held at the Ramna Engineers Institution auditorium in the capital on Wednesday.
Ziaur Rahman became the army chief after the father of the nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman was killed in his family on August 15, 1975.
On 21 April 1977, he took oath as the sixth president of Bangladesh.
Ziaur Rahman was born on January 19, 1936 in Matulalai, Bagbari, Gabtali Police Station, Bogra.
