The workers protested in Gazipur and Narayanganj demanding outstanding wages and Eid bonus. The highway was blocked in Narayanganj on this demand.
Hundreds of workers of a factory called National Chemical Manufacturing Company Limited in Gazipur staged a sit-in and protest demanding unpaid salaries. They took a stand in front of the Gazipur District Commissioner’s office on Tuesday afternoon. The workers said that they owe 5 months salary to the factory authorities in Basan area of the metropolis. In the morning, the workers protested in front of the factory in Barabari area of Basan police station. After not getting any response from the authorities, they marched and took a position in front of the office of the Deputy Commissioner.
According to the Gazipur Industrial Police, the workers are owed 5 months salary. Talking to the owner to resolve the issue.
The workers said that they have to pay their salary and bonus before Eid. Attempts to contact the factory authorities were unsuccessful.
Meanwhile, the workers of Total Fashion Limited in Bandar Upazila of Narayanganj protested by blocking the Dhaka-Chittagong highway to demand the outstanding salary and Eid bonus for last May. They protested at Langalband area of the upazila at around 12:30 pm on Tuesday. Salim Badsha, inspector of Shilpa Police-4, Narayanganj, said that after the police contacted the owner of the factory on Wednesday (today) and received an assurance regarding the payment of wages, the workers moved away from the highway.
