Garment workers blocked the Dhaka-Mymensingh highway at Tongi in Gazipur metropolis to demand unpaid wages.
At 9:30 am on Monday, the workers of Seasons Dresses Limited started a protest by blocking the highway in Khan Para area of Tongir.
As a result, traffic on both sides of the road has been blocked for about one and a half hours. Office-going people have suffered greatly.
It is known that the workers of the clothing factory called Seasons Dresses Limited, located in Khan Para area under Tongir West Police Station of Gazipur city, went to protest in front of the factory at 7 am. Later, the workers blocked the Dhaka-Mymensingh highway around 9:30 am to demand their outstanding salaries for the months of July and August.
In this regard, Gazipur Industrial Police Senior Assistant Superintendent of Police Mosharraf Hossain said that the owners are trying to communicate with the workers.
Earlier on Sunday, the workers of Seasons Dresses Limited, Prince Jacquard Sweater Limited, Beximco Pharmaceuticals and Mandal Garments Limited started a protest demanding unpaid salaries.
About five hundred workers of Prince Jacquard Sweater Limited factory located in Satais Baganbari area of Tongi are on strike to demand their August salary. Also, the workers of Beximco Pharmaceuticals in Cheragali Squibb Road area of Tongi went on strike for various demands.
Apart from this, the workers of Mandal Garments Ltd garment factory in Bagher Bazar area blocked the Dhaka-Mymensingh highway with a protest march to demand attendance bonus. Traffic stopped from Chandna intersection to Mauna. It creates severe traffic jams.
