15 people, including two women, have died in the ongoing floods in the country so far. More than 48 lakh people have been affected.
The Ministry of Disaster Management and Relief announced this information in a circular on Friday (August 23) evening. Among the dead were four in Comilla, one in Feni, four in Chittagong, one in Noakhali, one in Brahmanbaria, one in Laxmipur and three in Cox’s Bazar.
Meanwhile, on Friday (August 23), a picture has gone viral on social media. Where a child can be seen lying curled up in a blanket wrapped in cloth.
Patil was found floating in the flood water and was rescued from there and brought to a safe place. Many are sharing the picture with emotional captions. Many say all family members are dead.
However, after investigation, it was found that the viral photo is from Kharataia, Burichong area of Comilla. The picture was taken by a person named Nazmul Hasan Tapan.
He said that all the family members of the child are alive and safe.
Earlier last Wednesday (August 21), another child’s picture went viral on social media. It is seen that the child is submerged under water up to the neck. His forehead is furrowed and staring blankly.
The responsible people also shared the picture and gave different messages. However, an analysis by Rumor Scanner revealed that the image was created with AI. A post from RumorScanner’s Facebook page, along with the baby’s viral photo, said the real scene of the flood was actually more tragic. However, in our analysis, the viral image is created using AI technology.
The post also says that many have apparently assumed the viral image to be AI-generated based on inconsistencies in the reflection of light, the child’s eye expression, forehead folds and lip abnormalities. Apart from that, various AI image verification websites also gave the image as 60% to 91% AI results. Trying to recreate this same image using the MidJourney AI from the Rumor Scanner team, we got almost identical results.
