BNP’s alliance with Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami has become ineffective long ago, said the party’s general secretary Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir.
He said, the alliance we had, the alliance for the movement, has become ineffective long ago. It doesn’t work now.
The political arena of the country has changed after the fall of the Awami League government after 17 years of student uprising. BNP Secretary General said these things while talking to a news media of the country in this new situation.
Mirza Fakhrul said about the alliance with Jamaat, we started a simultaneous movement long ago. After discussing with various political parties, we fixed the program and carried out a simultaneous movement until the fall of the government. It is no longer in force. However, we have continued discussions with other parties. Because there is still a caretaker government, then there are elections. So it is important that we maintain dialogue with the political parties. We have no alliance at the moment. We are not allied.
Mirza Fakhrul said that all the laws made by Awami League were against democracy and said, “We have made any laws during our tenure which are against democracy?” can not show All laws made by Awami League are against democracy. Comparing BNP with Awami League will be a gross injustice.
Commenting that Awami League has destroyed the country, BNP Secretary General said, they have destroyed our spirit of freedom, economy, politics and values. A judge is being beaten up by people, highly respected leaders are being pelted with eggs in the court because of the accumulated anger among people. BNP and Awami League should not be measured on the same scale. BNP has tried to do the best in the country. Awami League did one-party bakshal, we gave multi-party democracy. Awami League closed all newspapers and magazines, we started all channels and magazines. Has anyone been detained in Hawa Bhaban, has anyone been tortured? Give a proof. So comparing BNP with Awami League is ‘injustice to us’.
Claiming that Bangladesh Nationalist Party always believes in democracy, Mirza Fakhrul said, after the fall of the government, the chairperson also said – we do not want to do politics of revenge and revenge. We want to do politics of harmony, love and good relations. But at the same time accountability to the people is a big issue. People will judge us for what we have done. Today, Awami League has to answer for its actions in the last 15 years. He must be held accountable for how they destroyed the country’s politics and economy. We have no objection if they do politics in a democratic manner. We believe that any person of any party has the right to do politics.
When you come to power, where is the guarantee that Hawa Bhaban will not come back? He said how many media and individuals propagate this phrase. Its sole aim is to denigrate the country’s largest political party, BNP, and denigrate the leadership, to weaken the leadership. BNP has never done anything against people. When running the country, something goes wrong, but that mistake has not harmed the country and the people. The freedom of the media was given by BNP, parliamentary democracy, free market economy was given by BNP. In the last 15 years, Awami League has made the country boil. Without giving importance to that issue, Hawa Bhaban was compared to the mirror house. Hawa Bhavan was a private office, which did not harm the country’s economy and politics. An attempt is made to make a projection with this. It is a conspiracy. To denigrate a team, to belittle its achievements. If there is an election, then the people will choose which party is good, which party is not good, which leader is bad, the election will prove it. But to impose – it is better to do this, it is better to do that – let it be done through elections.
