Attorney General argued in favor of removing ‘father of the nation’, ‘Bengali nationalism’, ‘socialism’ and ‘secularism’ from the constitution. Asaduzzaman.

He said this on Wednesday (November 13) at the hearing of the rule issued on the fifteenth amendment. The hearing was held in the bench of Justice Farah Mahbub and Justice Debashish Roy Chowdhury.

The Attorney General said, “The spirit of the liberation war does not mean that thousands of people will go missing, more than 6 million people will be accused in absentia cases, extrajudicial killings. Those who have no hands will be charged. Even those who are on Hajj.” These things cannot happen in the name of the spirit of the liberation war.

He also said, “Article 7(b) of the Constitution has killed democracy. It is not the principle of democracy, but it seeks to establish socialism, which we do not want. The contribution of Sheikh Mujibur Rahman cannot be denied, but the controversy over the title of ‘Father of the Nation’ Created, it created division in the society.”

The Attorney General said, “The word ‘Father of the Nation’ was added to the Constitution through the Fifteenth Amendment, but it was not in the first Constitution after Independence. It has been imposed by force and speaking against it is considered treason. It is against the basic spirit of the Constitution.” “

Regarding ‘secularism’, he said, “Bangladesh is 90% Muslim, so there is no need for the state to have the word ‘secularism’. It should remain as it was before. Article 2(a) of the Constitution states that the State shall have equal respect for all religions and religious will ensure freedom.”

But the biggest debate was ‘Bengali nationalism’. The Attorney General said, “Article 9 of the Constitution mentions Bengali nationalism, which is contradictory. It creates a crisis of nationalism, which is not compatible with the basic idea of the Constitution.”

He also said, “Due to the abolition of the caretaker government system, the hearts of the people of the country have bled, fundamental rights have been damaged. The fifteenth amendment is in conflict with the spirit of the liberation war, the popular uprising of the 1990s and the 24 July revolution.”

The Attorney General claimed, “If the Fifteenth Amendment is not repealed, the souls of the martyrs of the 24th July Revolution, especially Abu Saeed, Madhu and other martyrs, will not rest in peace.”

Thus he further argues that what is contained in the Fifteenth Amendment is not in accordance with the main purpose of the Constitution and the fundamental rights and liberties of the people of the country.
