Amir Shafiqur Rahman of the party commented that the nation did not accept the ban on Jamaat-e-Islami. He said that when the movement was at its peak, Jamaat-e-Islami was suddenly banned to take the movement in a different direction. The nation did not accept it. He raised the question and said, ‘We were banned because someone banned us? We don’t think so.’

When asked whether there was any discussion in the meeting about revoking the registration or banning the Jamaat, the Amir of the Jamaat said, ‘We have not come here with party demands. We have come to discuss matters of national interest. There are party issues for this, they will remain. The big thing is, we got banned because someone banned us? We don’t think so.’
Shafiqur Rahman said that in the end, the government has done many wrong things, for which the people of this country have to pay, the government has to pay. The countrymen have to bear the burden of this. It is such a thing.
Amir of Jamaat also said, ‘When the movement was at its peak, Jamaat-e-Islami was suddenly banned to take the movement in a different direction. The nation understands its meaning. Because the nation did not accept it, Jamaat-e-Islami is now cooperating at all important levels of the state, the state is also requesting us. We consider that to be sufficient justification and we do not need a greater justification.’
In response to another question regarding attacks on minorities, the Amir of Jamaat termed the incidents as a conspiracy against Bangladesh. He said, ‘It is true, there have been some attacks on people belonging to different religions here. Whether the attack was for religious or political reasons, it has to be ascertained. Those who are already in various crises, in religious crisis, have said that all attacks cannot be continued as religious attacks.
Referring to the fact that many of the Hindus are associated with political parties, Shafiqur Rahman said, ‘someone used to do politics here, he might have committed a big crime in politics. He may have taken revenge on him from a place of anger, why should we take it religiously?’ He said, the way the environment is being created regarding Bangladesh, it is not the environment of Bangladesh, it is untrue.
Shafiqur Rahman also said that the important people of India are writing sub-editorials even with the name of Jamaat-e-Islami. But where is that (situation)? He said, ‘Those against whom you are complaining, they are guarding the temple with sticks. Why are you complaining unnecessarily to those who are guarding the temple? In a question regarding the election, Jamaat’s Amir said, ‘There was no talk about the election. They just sat down, he added. It’s only been four days. We want them to see how they want to take the nation forward. How to solve problems quickly. We are hopeful that these will be resolved in a reasonable time. The country belongs to all of us. If the country lives, if it is well, we will all live and be well.’
