The Meteorological Department says that the ongoing rains across the country may increase this week. As a result, the water level of the main rivers in the north and north-eastern regions of the country has increased and there is a threat of short-term flooding in these districts.
The Flood Warning and Forecasting Center of the Water Development Board (PUBO) says that in the next 24 hours, the water level of Teesta, Dharla, Dudhkumar rivers in the northern region may rise and exceed the flood limit at some points. As a result, there is a risk of short-term flooding in the lower areas of these areas. Paubo has given this forecast regarding rainfall and floods yesterday Tuesday. On the other hand, the flood situation in the three districts of Sylhet, Sunamganj and Netrakona in the northeastern region may deteriorate and the flood situation in Moulvibazar will remain stable, according to the Flood Warning and Forecasting Center.
The notification signed by Sardar Uday Raihan, Executive Engineer of Paubo also informed that in the next 24 hours, the water of Muhuri, Feni, Halda, Sangu and Matamuhuri rivers in the southeastern part of the country may rise and flow near the border.
It is known that the lower areas of different upazilas of the two districts have already sunk. Many internal roads in Sunamganj have been cut off. As the water continues to rise, the people of the lower areas are suffering. There is a new fear of erosion. Water is also rising in various rivers of hill district Bandarban and central Sherpur. On the other hand, the fear of landslides has been reported in some parts of the hilly districts. Dhaka-Khagrachari and Dhaka-Chittagong roads have been blocked due to a landslide at Sapmara in Alutila of Khagrachari early this morning.
Meanwhile, the people of Sylhet are affected by the third round of floods as the second round of flood water does not recede. From Monday morning to Tuesday morning, the lower areas of Sylhet were flooded for the third time due to heavy rains and landslides. The people of Jaintapur, Companiganj, Kanaighat and Goainghat upazilas of the district are already waterlogged. Water has risen in Surma, Kushiara and Sari rivers. Shah Mohammad Sajib Hossain, assistant meteorologist of Sylhet Meteorological Office, said that 294 millimeters of rain fell from Monday morning to Tuesday morning. The Met Office has predicted more rain for the next few days. Due to the continuous rains of the last few days and the hill slopes coming down from India, the water of Chellakhali river in Nalitabari upazila of Sherpur is flowing 248 cm above the boundary line. At the same time the water of Maharshi and Someshwari of Jhenaigati upazila and Bhogai of Nalitabari upazila, Mirgi and old Brahmaputra of Sadar upazila have increased. However, except Chellakhali, the water of all the rivers is still flowing below the flood limit, said the District Water Development Board.
According to the Department of Agriculture Extension, Sherpur has recorded 303 mm rainfall in the last 24 hours. The forecast for the next 72 hours has said that there may be heavy to very heavy rains in the surrounding areas including Sherpur.
Heavy rains in the south-eastern part of the country and upstream waters from India broke the flood control dam of the Muhuri river and inundated the lower areas of Feni.

The water level in the Yamuna river at Bhuyapur in Tangail has risen by 33 cm in a day due to hill slopes coming down from the upstream and heavy rains. Sylhet under the third flood

Before the end of the second round of floods, there was a threat of a third round of floods in Sylhet from Monday. On Sunday, intermittent and heavy rains occurred in Sylhet throughout the day, resulting in a new flood situation. The areas of Companyganj, Jaintapur, Kanaighat and Goainghat upazilas of the district where the flood situation had improved were flooded again yesterday.
It is known that from Monday morning, the water of Surma and Lova rivers started to rise at a rapid pace in Kanighat. As a result, the water of Surma and Lova rivers entered the locality through at least 18 places of the already damaged Surma dyke and the remote townships of 9 unions and municipalities of the upazila were again submerged in flood water. Meanwhile, on Monday night, the district administration source said that flood situation is ongoing in all the upazilas of the district except Sylhet metropolis till noon today. 7 lakh 3 hundred and 36 people of 1 thousand 81 villages of the district are water bound. There is a risk of flooding again
