On the occasion of Martyr Nur Hossain Day, Awami League and Anti-Discrimination Student Movement have called a counter rally at Zero Point of Gulistan in the capital to demand ‘establishment of democratic rights’.
Normal people were seen moving there along with the movement of vehicles. The members of the law and order forces are in alert position around the counter rally. Some enthusiastic crowd was observed around Zero Point.
However, since Saturday night, anti-discrimination students’ movement, BNP, Jamaat-e-Islami and Jan Adhikar Parishad, all ‘anti-dictatorship’ political parties-crowds have taken a protest march and stand around the rally.
It is reported that the family of Shaheed Nur Hossain paid their respects at Nur Hossain Chatter on Sunday morning.
Policemen were seen in alert position around the rally. Members of the police and intelligence agencies are present in front of Secretariat Road. Besides, an armored police vehicle has also been kept.
Regarding the overall situation, a policeman in charge said, ‘We have a few platoons of policemen working in security. Our personnel are stationed at every junction of Zero Point to ensure security. All forces have personnel in civil dress. We will stay from morning till night on the occasion of today’s program.’
Earlier, Awami League, the ousted party in the mass uprising of the students, called on everyone to gather for the ‘restoration of democracy in Bangladesh’ and instructed the leaders and activists to gather at Nur Hossain square of zero point in Gulistan at 3 pm on Sunday. As a counter program, the anti-discrimination student movement has announced a public rally at the same place to demand the trial of ‘tyranny’ Awami League.
