This time, the Arakan Army, a rebel group, has launched an attack on the Rohingyas in Rakhine. Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) is on alert to prevent the arrival of Rohingyas in the emerging situation.
The Arakan Army, the country’s armed insurgent group, is fighting an ongoing battle with the military junta in Rakhine state. The Rohingya residents are fleeing again due to the war and the burning of their houses by both sides.
In 2017, the Rohingyas were forced to take shelter in Bangladesh to save themselves in the face of killing and persecution by the army. But this time the Arakan Army controlling the area is oppressing the Rakhine State. A Rohingya village called Buthidong Phumali clashed yesterday between the Arakan Army and Myanmar’s junta government. Many Rohingyas were killed in this. Many Rohingyas are running from one village to another for safe shelter.
According to Rohingya sources in Epar, massive arson has taken place across Rakhine’s Buthidong town. They blamed the Arakan Army for the arson. The Arakan Army seized Buthidong and gave the Rohingya Muslims an ultimatum to leave the town. In such situation, thousands of Rohingyas are fleeing to save their lives. The Arakan Army is not allowing the Rohingyas who lost their homes in the fire to take shelter in any shelter, government building, hospital or school building.
It had earlier given an ultimatum to the Rohingyas to leave Buthidong by May 18. After their ultimatum expired, the Arakan Army fighters in Buthidong area drove the locals out of their houses and set them on fire.
According to the local Rohingyas, a school and a hospital sheltering Rohingya refugees were also set on fire. Some were injured.
Before this, since March 3, not being able to survive the fight with Myanmar’s armed rebel group Arakan Army (AA), in order to save themselves, about a thousand members of the government security forces crossed the Naf River and Naikyangchari land border and fled to Bangladesh. Till now they were kept in a government primary school in Naikshyongchari under the custody of BGB. Later, the army and BGP members were sent back to Myanmar by ship.
In view of fierce fighting between the two sides in Rakhine, surveillance has been increased by deploying a part of the BGB from the Bandarban border area to the Myanmar border area of Cox’s Bazar district.
When asked about this, the commander of Teknaf-2 BGB Lt. Col. Md. Mohiuddin Ahmed said that BGB is in a strict position on the border. There is no chance of new Rohingya infiltration.
