He met with Housing and Public Works Secretary Kazi Washi Uddin at the secretariat on Wednesday (July 3) and submitted a written complaint along with various facts and evidence.
In 2017, the government took a project to build a total of 664 model mosques and Islamic cultural centers in each district and upazila with the aim of spreading Islamic knowledge and culture. The Ministry of Housing and Public Works is responsible for the construction of this project. As this project did not end within the specified time, the period was extended three times. Along with this, the project cost of Tk 842 crore has increased to Tk 9 thousand 435 crore. And the irregulars make the construction project of this institution controversial due to various irregularities.
Deputy Assistant Engineer Ashrafuzzaman’s wife Rezwana Hasnat Khushbu said that despite receiving information about her husband taking bribes in mosque construction, she failed to remove him from corruption despite repeated requests. I have even been physically abused for stopping corruption. In this situation, there was no option to complain to the concerned department in the interest of the family and the country.
She also said that although I was a child of a very ordinary family at the time of marriage, my husband now has a huge amount of property including a luxurious house. This is not possible without bribery and corruption. I want investigation of corruption and redressal of torture on me.
In this regard, Director of Model Mosque Project Najibur Rahman said that strict action will be taken against the accused if the allegations of bribery and corruption in this religious project are proved.
