The United States has canceled the visa of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, who resigned over the anti-discrimination student movement.
A source in the US State Department said this on Tuesday (August 6).
Earlier, Sheikh Hasina and her sister Sheikh Rehana were forced to flee during the ‘Long March to Dhaka’ program called by students on Monday.
Sheikh Hasina first arrived in India after leaving Bangladesh. India has given him asylum for now. India’s Foreign Minister S Jaishankar said in an all-party meeting that he has been given a few days to go to a safe haven. He said that if she tells the Indian government what is Sheikh Hasina’s next plan, steps will be taken accordingly.
It is not yet clear whether the UK will grant asylum to Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina. According to some unconfirmed sources, Sheikh Hasina has sought asylum in Britain. But still did not get green signal from there.
The manner in which Sheikh Hasina sought asylum from Britain is not possible according to the Immigration Act. Britain cannot give asylum to anyone in that way. Indian media NDTV got this information by contacting the Ministry of Home Affairs of that country.
