Nepal’s Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal was ousted after losing a vote of confidence in the parliament. The confidence vote was held in the country’s parliament on Friday (July 12). After losing the vote, Pushpa Dahal will have to leave the post of Prime Minister compulsorily. He was in power for a total of 19 months.
On July 3, the largest party in the coalition, UML, withdrew its support from Prime Minister Pushpa Dahal’s coalition government. After that Pushpa had to organize a vote of confidence in the Parliament as per the constitution.
Nepal’s lower house of parliament has 275 seats. A prime minister needs at least 138 votes to win the confidence vote. But in this vote on Friday, Pushpa got only 63 votes. 194 legislators voted against him. One voted no. 258 legislators were present in the parliament that day.
Withdrawing support from Pushpa Dahal, UML joined hands with Nepali Congress, the country’s largest political party.
UML and Nepali Congress have agreed to elect Kharag Prasad Oli as the new Prime Minister of the country.
Elections were held in Nepal in December last year. Pushpa Kamal Dahal’s party got the third highest number of seats in the parliament. But despite this, Pushpa managed to form a coalition and become the Prime Minister. But since then his alliance has been shaky. He finally lost power in July this year.
