BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir commented that the government is taking the country to the abyss.
He said, ‘The country is going to the abyss. The longer this government remains in power, the faster Bangladesh will go into the abyss.’
The BNP Secretary General made this comment while highlighting the situation in the country at a doa mahfil organized for the recovery of party chairperson Begum Khaleda Zia at the capital’s Nayapaltan office on Tuesday afternoon.
Mirza Fakhrul said, ‘The government has destroyed democracy by talking about democracy. Notice, while destroying this democracy, they destroyed the elections, destroyed the country’s economy, completely partisanized the administration. There are no democratic institutions left which they have not destroyed.’
He said, ‘As long as this government is in power, we will not have freedom, we will not have sovereignty, our economy will be destroyed, the education system will be destroyed, there is nothing that has not been destroyed today.’
BNP Secretary General said, ‘What we need now is to build unity among all. To accelerate the movement through that unity, strengthen it and defeat them through the movement on the streets.’
He also said, ‘The release of the national leader – there is no reason to see it separately. The liberation of the country’s leader, the liberation of this country, the liberation of democracy, there is one thing at the root of everything, that is the government. If we can remove this government, we can bring everything back. Let us work towards that goal. God willing, we all work together. No one can defeat us.’
BNP Secretary General congratulated the leaders of the newly formed Metropolitan BNP North, South and Juba Dal.
He said, “We hope that under the leadership of the new committee of Dhaka city, the organization will be stronger and will play a role in defeating this government.”
Mirza Abbas, a member of the BNP Standing Committee, said, “There will be no democratic liberation of the people of this country without the liberation of the country’s leader.” In the state of the country, this government is not listening to the people. They walk their way, talk their way. They do not understand the people. We do not understand their language.’
He said, ‘We speak Bengali, we are the people of Bengal, we believe in protest, we do not believe in subjugation – this should be remembered by all. Keeping this in mind, I call on everyone today to keep themselves free for all time, to keep the country free and sovereign.’
This doa mahfil was held at the Maulana Bhasani auditorium of the metropolitan BNP office in Nayapaltan on the initiative of Dhaka Metropolitan South and North to wish the health of party chairperson Begum Khaleda Zia.
