Meanwhile, two people, including Milton, a third year student of Rangpur Medical College, died after the boat sank in the flood water in Sherpur’s Jhenaigati. A schoolboy named Abhi drowned while taking a bath in Sylhet city. A child named Rifat drowned while taking a bath at Kalmakanda in Netrakona. Sylhet: The overall flood situation in Sylhet is improving due to non-rainfall and upstream hill slopes. No rainfall was reported anywhere from 6 am to 3 pm on Friday. The water in the rivers did not rise. However, the waters of Surma and Kushiara rivers are still flowing above the boundary line at six points. Meanwhile, the sun appeared in the sky of Sylhet on Friday morning after continuous rain. As the sun shines in different areas, some relief has returned to public life. A schoolboy named Abhi (17) died in Muktirachak area of the city after going down to bathe in flood water around 1 am on Friday. Sylhet City Corporation Ward 31 Councilor Nazmul Hossain confirmed the matter. Sylhet Taltala fire service leader Shahidun Islam said that the schoolboy went missing while taking a bath. The fire service team rescued him with the help of locals.
On Friday morning, knee-deep water was seen in the houses and streets of the city including Shahjalal suburb, Jatarpur, Sobhanighat, Mirabazar, Mendibagh, Topkhana, Jamtala and surrounding areas. During the inspection of the land, the local residents said that the water has decreased slightly due to lack of rain. However, they are in extreme distress and fear amid the forecast of fresh rains. According to the information of the district administration, more than 1 lakh 85 thousand people in Osmani Nagar and Goainghat more than 1 lakh 45 thousand people are trapped in water. Besides, more than 95 thousand 500 people in Companyganj, 90 thousand in Jaintapur, 85 thousand in Jokiganj and more than 70 thousand in Sadar are trapped in water. 60 thousand people are affected by flood in 23 wards of the city. Sylhet Deputy Commissioner Sheikh Russel Hasan said that the water has been decreasing since Thursday afternoon due to good weather. If there is no rain, the water will recede quickly. More than 27,000 people were in shelters Thursday night. A little over 23,000 were staying at around 11am on Friday. Many have returned home as the water receded.
The Deputy Commissioner also said that under the direction of the Prime Minister, dry and cooked food is being distributed among the flood victims. It will be running. Osmaninagar (Sylhet): Thousands of houses, roads, educational institutions, mosques, bazaars and shops in more than two hundred villages of 8 unions of Osmaninagar have been flooded. Sylhet-2 Constituency (Osmaninagar-Bishwanath) Member of Parliament Expatriate Welfare and Foreign Employment State Minister Shafikur Rahman Chowdhury visited different areas of the upazila for 3 days and distributed relief materials among the displaced people. Biswanath (Sylhet): Since there is no embankment in the Biswanath section of the Surma River, millions of people of the upazila suffer endless suffering every year due to floods. This year too, sudden flood occurred in Bishwanath Upazila in Surma river. Many people think that the people of Bishwanath will be saved from sudden floods if only 6 km embankment is built on the banks of Surma river. Former Chairman of Khajanchi Union, Mohammad Ghiyas, said that to save lakhs of people of the upazila from sudden floods, an embankment in Viswanath part of Surma River is very important. State Minister for Expatriate Welfare and Foreign Employment Shafiqur Rahman Chowdhury said that talks have been held with the State Minister for Water Resources to build an embankment across the Surma river to protect the upazila residents from floods. He also said that Makunda River, including the entrance and end of Basia River, will be excavated and the filled canals will be excavated and excavated, he said.
Fenchuganj (Sylhet): There is only water and water all around in Fenchuganj. Homes, shops, government and private offices, educational institutions – water everywhere. Flood situation in Sunamganj is gradually improving despite water receding in Sunamganj. Sunamganj residents saw sunshine after the rain stopped from Thursday afternoon. The flood situation is improving. Child drowned in Kalmakanda: A madrasa student named Rifat Hossain (10) died after drowning in a mountain stream in Kalmakanda, Netrakona. Due to heavy rains for a few days, almost the entire paved road at that place broke down and fell into the nearby pond on Wednesday. As a result, all types of vehicles including autorickshaws, cars have stopped.
Roumari (Kurigram): Lower areas of Roumari Sadar, Yadurchar, Shaulmari Bandabed and Char Shaulmari Unions have been inundated. There are cries for relief in flood-hit areas.
