Abdul Hannan Masoud, coordinator of the anti-discrimination student movement, said, “We will not accept any ‘hanging decision’.” He said these things in a response after the judgment of the Appellate Division on Wednesday (July 10).
He said, our one-point demand is ‘Parliament should pass a law and cancel all types of discriminatory quotas by keeping a minimum (maximum 5 percent) quota for backward communities in all grades of government jobs.’
We will be on the streets until this demand is met from the executive department.
Earlier, at 12 noon, the Appellate Division stayed the status quo for one month after the judgment given by the High Court upheld the quota in government jobs.
Before the court’s verdict, the agitators said around 10 am, we welcome the court’s verdict. This judgment is not a permanent solution. We will not leave the streets until there is a permanent solution. We don’t want this game that is canceled once, reinstated again, canceled again. In this way Kana cannot be repeatedly shown to the High Court. Everyone should stay on the streets until a permanent solution is found.
Meanwhile, the students have blocked the important roads of the country and the entrance of the capital including Shahbagh, Banglamotor, Chankharpool, Paltan and Gulistan Zero Points, Science Laboratory intersection, Dhaka-Aricha highway as per the pre-announced program to demand cancellation of quota in government jobs.
