Jalpaiguri, Sikkim and the northern districts of India above Bangladesh are flooded due to heavy rain. Teesta, Jaldhaka and other rivers are flowing in the mountains and plains due to continuous rain. Water level is increasing rapidly in Ghazaldoba Teesta Barrage. The Indian Irrigation Department has issued a red alert on both sides of the Teesta.
According to the news of the Indian media Zee News, a red alert has been issued on both sides of the river from Mekhliganj city in India located on the banks of the Teesta river to the Bangladesh border.
The Indian Meteorological Office has issued a warning that heavy rains will continue across North-East India for the next five days. Sikkim and northern districts including Jalpaiguri have witnessed it since last Saturday night. As the mountain stream is coming down in the continuous rain, the rain water of the plain is joining with it.
All of a sudden, the torrential rivers like Teesta, Jaldhaka, Torsa, Lis, Ghis, and Neora flowing through the chest of Duars have taken on a terrifying form due to this heavy rain.
A red alert has been issued in Teesta bank and Ghazaldoba Teesta barrage area along with yellow signal in other rivers. According to the Meteorological Office, the rainfall in Jalpaiguri is 136 mm in the last 24 hours.
