– Exaggerated history of Sheikh Mujib is being omitted
– Contribution of Ziaur Rahman is being added

Sheikh Hasina’s picture has been included in the textbooks of all classes for the past one century; But from the next academic year, there will be no picture of Sheikh Hasina in the textbooks that the students will get. The process of bringing back the old curriculum has already started after canceling the controversial curriculum. However, it is not possible to change the entire curriculum. The curriculum for teaching public-owned egg and potato frying introduced by the Awami government will be changed and refined in stages. However, in the next academic year (year 2025), the new books that the students will get in hand, several revisions are being made in the existing curriculum. The picture of Sheikh Hasina is given on the last page of the Malat of the existing textbook. The last page of the new textbooks printed for next year will not have Sheikh Hasina’s picture. There is a proposal to give an educational quote.
On the other hand, in the new curriculum, in the primary and secondary levels, the textbooks of various classes, especially history or sociology or world history books, will be revised in the way exaggerated history is attached to Sheikh Mujibur Rahman. No more false history or distorted history. However, Sheikh Mujibur Rahman or Ziaur Rahman deserves respect and correct history for the motherland will be presented in textbooks for students to learn. Martyr President Ziaur Rahman’s contribution has not been included in the textbook for a long time, but it has been proposed to include the subject in the new curriculum.

This information was revealed while talking to the heads of various branches and the members in charge of the curriculum (primary and secondary) at the National Curriculum and Textbook Board (NCTB) on Tuesday. The editing department will finalize and send to print after correcting all the contentious points for revising the current curriculum of the textbook. However, the related officials also said that the revision or modification work is still going on with the syllabus or curriculum.
Several officials related to the controversial curriculum revision work told Naya Diganta that various educators and parents of the country had been expressing dissatisfaction against the existing curriculum since before the fall of the Awami League government. Many people call this curriculum as fried egg and fried potato curriculum. But the Awami League government did not listen to anyone’s words. The government has unilaterally imposed this controversial education curriculum on students.

In this regard, after the fall of the Awami League government on August 5, the interim government first announced the cancellation of the controversial curriculum after taking charge of the country. For this purpose, the work of revising or changing the syllabus of the textbook which is now being printed for the next academic year has also been started. In the existing curriculum class IX has been declassified, but the new interim government is again allowing class IX to be classed (Arts, Science, Business Education) from the academic year 2025. And those who are in ninth class this year will go up to tenth class next year (year 2025). They also get a chance to choose department for one year. Textbooks are also being written for them in the same way.

According to sources, the new textbooks are doing away with the distortions of history that have been perpetrated page by page in the past few days. In other words, excessive politicization of history will no longer be in textbooks. However, whoever has contributed to the country will be respectfully included in the textbook.
Prominent educationist Rakhal Raha, who is associated with the controversial curriculum revision work imposed by the Awami government, told Naya Digant yesterday that we do not want to make anyone small or big in the textbooks. We want to highlight the contribution of the people of the country for the country in an impartial manner. However, I propose to exclude the exaggerated issues of history books. At the same time, all the things that hurt the cultural culture or religious beliefs of the country are also being excluded. One thing is clear, we may not be able to make all the changes or improvements in one year. However, it will be an ongoing process to revise the textbook in several stages.

NCTB Member (Textbook Secondary) Professor Md. Saidur Rahman said that it will not be possible to change everything in one year. Because we have to keep in mind that on the first day of the year we have to hand over new books to the students. Therefore, instead of canceling the tenders for printing the textbooks of the classes which have already been finalised, the manuscripts should be prepared and printed as soon as possible. As a result, our work will increase a lot in the next two-three months. If everything goes well, the students will get the books on the first day of the year.
