Sheikh Hasina, who resigned from the post of Prime Minister and fled, is staying in India. Earlier it was known that he would take refuge in another country and go there. He will stay in the country not as a political asylum or refugee, but through a visa.
In an exclusive report on Friday, this information was reported by CNN’s affiliate News Eighteen. Official sources told them, ‘Sheikh Hasina is not getting a safe exit from any country at the moment. We do not have political asylum and refugee laws in India. Therefore, according to the law, we cannot keep anyone as a refugee, we cannot give political asylum. The Dalai Lama (Tibetan religious guru) is here on government policy.’
Sources said the political asylum and refugee laws have caused trouble worldwide. The source told News Eight, ‘Once you grant refugees or political asylum, they have the right to go to court. This creates more problems. We allow stay on a case-by-case basis, but there is no such law (of refugees or political asylum).’
When Sheikh Hasina escaped on August 5, her sister Sheikh Rehana was also with her. They are currently based in Delhi, India. Sheikh Hasina sought political asylum from the United Kingdom. His niece, Sheikh Rehana’s daughter, Tulip Siddiq, is a Member of Parliament. However, it is not possible to get political asylum in the UK immediately.
Meanwhile, the US has canceled the visa it had granted to Sheikh Hasina as Prime Minister. Currently, he is seeking political asylum in the United Arab Emirates and various European countries.
