Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has congratulated British Labor Party leader Sir Keir Starmer on his party’s historic victory in the July 4 election and assuming office as the Prime Minister of the United Kingdom.
“This unequivocal mandate is a clear reflection of the confidence of the British people in your leadership to take your country to new heights of progress and prosperity and to strengthen global peace,” he wrote to the new UK prime minister.
The Bangladesh High Commission in London has sent this letter to the newly elected Prime Minister of the United Kingdom.
On this occasion, Sheikh Hasina recalled the enduring friendship of the founder of Bangladesh, Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman and his party Awami League, with the iconic leaders of the Labor Party and the party, Sir Harold Wilson, Thomas Williams CK and Lord Peter Shore, during the Great War of Liberation in 1971, which is indeed the democracy of the two countries. Bangladesh-UK relations have been built on a solid foundation based on shared values of secularism and inclusive and progressive aspirations.
“My Government looks forward to working closely with the Labor Party Government under your able stewardship to further strengthen our long-standing political, economic, climate and strategic partnership in the mutual interest of our two Commonwealth countries,” he said.
He added, ‘Most importantly, together we will continue to strive to harness the invaluable contribution of over 7 lakh vibrant and enterprising Bangladeshi-British diaspora to the welfare of our two countries.’
He wished her good health, happiness and success as the new Prime Minister of the United Kingdom and the peace, progress and prosperity of the friendly people of the United Kingdom as she undertakes her important duties.
