The Metropolitan Detective Police (DB) has arrested two persons, including a Vietnamese national, who were involved in the booming trade of selling herbal products with flashy advertisements.
They are Vietnamese citizen Tran-Anh-Tho aka Mr. Tony and Nurul Amin aka Yamin.
According to DB, a Facebook account was opened under the identity of Health Minister Samantlal Sen and various herbal beauty products including hair tonic were advertised. People order these products because of the use of the name of the health minister.
This information was given in a press conference organized at the DB office on Mintu Road in the capital on Saturday afternoon.
Earlier, they were arrested in an operation of DB Cyber Crime Division (South) in Gulshan area of the capital last Friday night. 3 mobile phones, 4 laptops and various Chinese and Vietnamese products used in fraud were recovered from them.
In the Sabad conference, DB Chief Mohammad Haroon Or Rashid said that a company called ‘Unique Sipping Agency’ was found in Gulshan area in view of a case filed by the personal assistant of the Health Minister at Shahbag police station. Those who have been selling low quality products imported from Vietnam and China using the names and pictures of various celebrities and political figures of the country including the Health Minister.
DB chief said, Mr. Tony and Nurul Amin are the main agents of the fraud ring. They opened fake Facebook pages using the names and pictures of various celebrities including the Health Minister and advertised. These fake Facebook pages are from Vietnam. Directed by a man named Dong. And seeing that flashy advertisement, the common people of the country order on the page. The information was then sent from the ring’s marketing group in Vietnam to Bangladeshi people working in a company called ‘Unique Sipping Agency’. From there, the customer calls the customer from the registered fake number, confirms the order and delivers the product to the courier.
According to DB, these low-quality products are brought from Vietnam-China, but the products are not valid for marketing in Bangladesh.
