A case of treason has been registered in Chittagong against former prime minister Sheikh Hasina, three former chief election commissioners (CEC) Kazi Rakibuddin Ahmed, KM Nurul Huda and Kazi Habibul Awal, along with the commissioners and secretaries of organizing illegal and fraudulent elections. Apart from this, Awami League general secretary Obaidul Quader has also been charged with three terms of parliament.
Ekramul Karim, former General Secretary of Chittagong City BNP, filed the case in the court of Chittagong Metropolitan Magistrate-6 Kazi Shariful Haque on Wednesday afternoon. The court accepted the case and ordered the police to investigate.
Plaintiff’s lawyer Kofil Uddin said, ‘In the last three elections, many popular leaders, including the opposition, did not participate. Ordinary people could not exercise the right to vote. Due to the failure of those who were in the commission, the administration and the law and order forces also behaved unilaterally in the election field. In the three elections that were held at the expense of huge sums of money, the administration officials including the commissioner have violated the constitution. For these reasons, cases of treason and fraud have been filed.
He also said, ‘At the same time, the members of parliament who were elected in these elections have also been accused in this case because they have enjoyed privileges illegally.’
