Bangladesh Police Service Association (BPSA) has claimed that partial, objective and false reports are being published on the media (print and electronic media) and social media about former and current members of Bangladesh Police. The organization strongly protested this.
The Police Service Association, in a circular on Friday, urged greater caution and proper adherence to journalistic ethics in publishing any report on the police force in the future.
Former Inspector General of Police (IG) Benazir Ahmed and his family and former Commissioner of Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP). Recently various reports were published in the media about the wealth of Achaduzzaman Mia and his family. Benazir left the country with his family on May 4 after the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) started investigating his assets.
In this context, a meeting of the Police Service Association was held at the police headquarters auditorium on Thursday. Some also demanded legal action against those involved in publishing such news. The notification of the Police Service Association came the day after the meeting.
President of Police Service Association and Additional IGP of Police Special Branch (SB). Monirul Islam and General Secretary of the Association Narayanganj District Superintendent of Police Golam Mostafa Russell signed the circular and sent it.
It is said in the notification that some media outlets are publishing and publishing derogatory negative news against some police officers for personal outrage and protection of their own interests, which is against the principles of journalism. In such a situation, it is not unreasonable to raise the question that for what reason, whose purpose has been achieved and whose directive (mandate) is being implemented, some media are indulging in such slander against the Bangladesh Police.
It is also mentioned in the circular that the police has always followed the policy of ‘zero tolerance’ (zero tolerance) against corruption. It is said that no exemption is given to a policeman if he is found guilty of corruption. Departmental action as well as legal action was taken against him.
The notification also said that the media is the mirror of the society. Constructive criticism of the media is always welcome; But they want to protest against the publication of any fragmented or partial news in the media. Let the overall picture of an incident emerge in the media, let the truth be revealed. Media reports should be truthful and objective.
Stating that the media has a responsibility to the reader to publish impartial news, the Police Service Association said, for some mysterious reason, a class of media has very cleverly tried to frame the accused by controverting the police, which is considered to be the name of bad journalism that silences the voice of honest journalism. Such one-sided behavior of the media amounts to cheating the common reader. Such misreporting appears to be an attempt to demoralize the honest, dedicated, professional and patriotic members of the police, which may adversely affect the discharge of their professional duties.
The Police Service Association says such disinformation is a ploy to encourage terrorists and anti-national conspiracy, and it deserves consideration. As a result, the fear of the people aspiring for police service, as well as the country and the nation as a whole, cannot be ruled out.
The notification also mentioned that the police never expects such unprofessional journalism from the media. It has been requested to refrain from publishing such misleading reports in the interest of public safety and public order.
