The agitators will hold public relations with the representatives of all the districts and campuses of the country today in a one-phase movement to demand quota reforms in government jobs.
They will announce the next program in a press briefing in front of Dhaka University Central Library at 6 pm on Saturday.
Talking to the leaders of the student movement, it is known that they will once again hold a street movement program. They announced that they will not return to the reading table until their demands are met.
On Friday (July 12) the students arrived at Shahbagh around 5 pm and took up their positions. They blocked this important junction of the capital for almost an hour. Traffic stopped in that area.
Later the students announced the next program. They said that on Saturday (July 13) there will be public relations with the representatives of all the districts and campuses of the country. At the same time, the previously announced class-examination program will also continue.
English department student Hasnat Abdullah, one of the coordinators of the movement, said, ‘Those who will never get a job are raising questions about our movement. We strongly condemn the institutions that are shedding blood. Wherever there is an attack, we will give a sharp response. We have nothing to lose. All we want is a talent.
Abdul Quader, another coordinator of the movement, said, ‘We came to take control of the country. Accept us once. Let us go back to the reading table.’
Another coordinator, Abu Bakar Majumder, said, ‘I strongly condemn and protest against those who were tortured by the police in various campuses and districts on Thursday from today’s Shahbagh siege. Our next program is public relations with representatives of all districts and campuses in the country tomorrow and a press briefing will be held in front of the central library of Dhaka University at 6 o’clock.
In October 2018, when the anti-quota movement reached its peak, the government issued a circular and completely canceled the quota system in government jobs. In 2021, seven students, including Ahidul Islam, the son of the freedom fighter and president of the generation command council, filed a writ challenging that circular. In view of this, a bench of the High Court canceled the circular on June 5.
After this verdict, the students got angry. They held various programs demanding cancellation of quota. Students are continuing their vigorous agitation by boycotting classes and exams since last July 1.
