BNP standing committee member and former minister Mirza Abbas said that the biggest challenge is to protect the country’s democracy, independence and sovereignty from the hands of the ruling Awami League.
He said, if Begum Khaleda Zia is sick, the whole country will be sick. This nation and the country must be freed from sickness.
He said these things in response to reporters’ questions after visiting the shrine of BNP founder Ziaur Rahman at Sherbangla Nagar in the capital on Saturday afternoon.
Mirza Abbas visited the shrine along with the leaders of the newly formed committees of Dhaka Metropolitan North and South BNP. At this time, Mirza Abbas recited the oath to the gathered leaders and activists for the restoration of democracy and the success of the people’s suffrage movement.
It is known that after a long time, the leaders of the past committees of Dhaka Metropolitan North and South BNP, leaders and activists of various police stations and wards gathered at Ziaur Rahman’s shrine. They shouted slogans demanding Khaleda Zia’s release and welcoming the newly formed committee of Dhaka Metropolitan BNP.
Notable leaders were present- Adviser to BNP Chairperson Md. Abdus Salam, Syed Moazzem Hossain Alal, Joint Secretary General Habib Un Nabi Khan Sohail, BNP Volunteer Affairs Secretary Mir Sarafat Ali Sapu, Publicity Secretary Sultan Salauddin Tuku, Dhaka North BNP Convenor Saiful Alam Nirav, Member Secretary Aminul Haque, Southern BNP Convener Rafiqul Alam Majnu, Member Secretary Tanveer Ahmed Rabin, Youth Party President Monayem Munna, General Secretary Nurul Islam Nayan, Volunteer Party President SM Jilani and others.
Terming the ongoing anti-quota movement of ordinary students as logical, he said that the government is conspiring.
Mirza Abbas said, we all offered wreaths at the shrine of martyred President Ziaur Rahman. Everyone took an oath that Begum Khaleda Zia will be freed. If Khaleda Zia is sick, the whole country is sick. He is now seriously ill. I pray to Allah that He returns Begum Khaleda Zia to us. The metropolitan BNP leaders will do what needs to be done to restore democracy in the country.
In response to a question, he said, the quota reform movement is logical and fair. BNP wants to hide the truth because it has given support. This is their trick. We fear that the government is conspiring against the country through this movement.
He also said that our movement has never failed. Rather, the government has conspired to thwart the movement. Many activists have gone to prison in groups. Going out again and going to jail. Plagued with false cases. Many were shot. So the movement did not fail.
Note that on July 7, BNP announced a new partial convening committee of two members of Dhaka Metropolitan North and South BNP. Saiful Alam Nirav, the former president of Jatiyatabadi Jubo Dal, was made the convener and football secretary of BNP, Aminul Haque, was made the member secretary, and Rafiqul Alam Majnu, the former member secretary, was made the convener and Tanveer Ahmed Rabin, the former joint convener, was made the member secretary.
