From next year, the secondary school textbooks will again undergo major changes. Although the primary book has been revised, it will not change drastically. And next December, the annual examination of every subject of class VI to IX will be held in three hours. 70 percent of which will be evaluated through written examination. The remaining 30 percent will be assessed during school learning.

The National Curriculum and Textbook Board (NCTB) has informed about this preliminary decision. The final decision on other textbooks and curriculum along with evaluation will be detailed in the form of instructions soon.

Currently the education program is going on according to the new curriculum; But after taking over the interim government says that this curriculum is not feasible . For this, they have decided to start the program by prioritizing the old curriculum of 2012.

What will happen to the book?

Currently, the education program is going on in the first, second, third, sixth, seventh, eighth and ninth classes according to the new curriculum. According to the previous plan, it was supposed to be launched in all classes up to the middle school through the introduction of the new curriculum in the fourth, fifth and tenth classes next year; But after the change of government this plan also changed .

Sources of NCTB said that there is not much change in the textbooks of class I to III except for some things including the cover. However, the textbooks of class IV and V will be printed with necessary corrections and revisions.

According to NCTB sources, next year almost radical changes will be made in all textbooks of class VI to IX. There is no new curriculum book. It is planned to give books according to the old curriculum from next year in these classes. NCTB has already started the process for this purpose.

Some new things may be added in this process. For example, Humayun Ahmed’s Liberation War-centered novel 1971 may be added to Madhyamik.

According to the new curriculum, those currently studying in Class IX will decide science, humanities and business education branches in Class X from next January. They will be given revised textbooks in the light of 2012 syllabus. As they are nearing the end of ninth grade and getting new books going into tenth grade, these students will read a shorter curriculum. A short syllabus of textbooks is being prepared for this. So that those students can complete it within one academic year.

According to NCTB sources, the team is already working on revising the textbook. In this group there are many teachers and people related to education of Dhaka University.

In the new curriculum, division of departments (Science, Humanities and Business Education etc. branches) was done from this year in Class IX .

How will the exam be conducted?

According to the new curriculum, there were to be five hours of assessment for classes VIII and IX and four hours for classes VI and VII; But a new decision has been made, the annual examination in secondary school at the end of this year will be in three hours. The written test will consist of context-based written questions and multiple choice questions (MCQs). Out of this 70 percent will be evaluated through examination. NCTB will prepare model questions for this. Based on that, the schools themselves will prepare the question paper and conduct the examination separately.

According to the new curriculum, NCTB central question papers started this year semi-annually or semi-annually . Allegations were made that this question paper was leaked .

According to the new decision, 30 percent of the assessment will be during school learning. NCTB will decide whether it will be based on assignment, presentation or whatever. The learning assessment already done, will not be used to produce the results of the annual examination. The new learning assessment will be taken into account. Currently, those who are studying in class IX, their annual examination will also be conducted according to this rule. And later SSC and equivalent exams will be almost like before. The result will also be generated in GPA-system.

The new chairman of NCTB Professor AKM Riazul Hasan told Prothom Alo that various issues are being discussed in the changed situation. A decision on this matter will be announced soon.
