Police have surrounded a house in Netrakona on suspicion of being a terrorist hideout

According to some local residents, the house in Vasapara area was built by a person named Abdul Mannar of Atpara Upazila Noapara village about 20 years ago. Abdul Mannan is a teacher at Dhaka University of Engineering and Technology (DUET) by profession. He wants to establish a college there. But it didn’t happen anymore. Two years ago he rented the house to a person.

Local people said that after paying the rent, the tenant raised the boundary wall of the house. After that, about 20 CCTV cameras were installed on the boundary wall along coconut trees and mango trees. There are two ponds inside the house. No local is allowed to enter that house.

According to police sources, based on intelligence information, a group of policemen led by officer-in-charge of Netrakona Model Police Station, Abul Kalam, conducted an operation at around 1 am today. At that time, a foreign pistol, 17 rounds of bullets, a large number of toy pistols, two walkie-talkies, a handcup, a bag of Jihadi books were found in a room on the ground floor of the house. Police believe the house may have bomb-like explosives.

Netrakona Police Superintendent Md. Faiz Ahmad visited the scene and told Prothom Alo that the police’s specialized team counter-terrorism unit has been informed. The house is thought to be a terrorist hideout. Militants were trained here. When the bomb expert team reaches the spot, details can be given by going inside.

Asadullah Chowdhury, Additional Inspector General of Police of Mymensingh Division of Intraterrialism Unit, said that the incident site has been visited. The expert team of Counter Tourism Unit, the expert team of SWAT Unit have been informed. They can be detailed as to what is actually inside.
