The Home Ministry of the Interim Government has ordered police escort for the security of BNP chairperson and former Prime Minister Khaleda Zia.
BNP Chairperson’s Private Secretary ABM Abdul Satta confirmed the matter on Tuesday afternoon.
Earlier, BNP had written to the two concerned departments asking for police security at Khaleda Zia’s Gulshan residence ‘Firoza’ and during her movement to the hospital. Two letters were sent to the Public Safety Secretary last Tuesday and to the Inspector General of Police last Wednesday.
BNP chairperson Khaleda Zia, convicted in a corruption case, has been temporarily freed since 2020 by the government’s executive order, but since then she has not had regular police security.
Khaleda Zia was completely freed from the sentence after the fall of the Awami League government in the student movement on August 5. President Md. Sahabuddin commuted the sentence of former Prime Minister Khaleda Zia under Article 49 of the Constitution.
