Agitating autorickshaw drivers set fire to a traffic police box in Kalshi of the capital. The incident took place at Kalshi intersection around 4:20 pm on Sunday (19 May).

Earlier, battery-operated rickshaw drivers and traders protested with sticks at Mirpur No. 10 in the capital. At that time, apart from attacking some buses, the angry people also beat the pedal rickshaw drivers. From 10 am on Sunday, they besieged Mirpur goal square No. 10.
Their protest is against the recent operation of the police to stop the movement of battery-powered rickshaws to reduce accidents on the roads.
Last Wednesday, Road Transport and Bridges Minister Obaidul Quader said, ‘No battery-powered vehicle should run in Dhaka City. We have banned 22 highways. Not only a ban, measures should be taken so that it cannot continue.’
Electric three-wheelers are known by various names including Auto, Easybike. He blamed the movement of motorbikes and easy bikes on the road for the accident.
In the meeting with the minister at the BRTA building, the two mayors of Dhaka also gave their consent to stop the movement of these battery-powered vehicles in the city.
