Asad bin Hafiz, one of the most famous poets and writers of contemporary Bengali literature, was offered prayers at National Mosque Baitul Mukarram today on July 1. Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami Central Naib Ameer and former MP Professor Mujibur Rahman led the prayer and funeral there.
Poet Asad bin Hafiz passed away at 12:55 last night while undergoing treatment in a hospital in the capital. He was suffering from various physical complications including old age ailments for a long time.
Jamaat-e-Islami Naib Ameer Dr. Syed Abdullah Mohammad Taher, Secretary General Prof. Mia Golam Parwar, Assistant Secretary General Maulana Rafiqul Islam Khan, Maulana Abdul Halim, Advocate Moazzem Hossain Helal, Central Executive Council recently Advocate Matiur Rahman Akand, Dhaka were present at the first prayer of the deceased. Amir Nurul Islam Bulbul of Metropolitan South, Amir Muhammad Salim Uddin of Dhaka Metropolitan North, Naib Amir Abdus Sabur Fakir of Metropolitan South, Dr. Helal Uddin, North Secretary Dr. Muhammad Rezaul Karim, South Assistant Secretary Delaware Hossain Kamal Hossain and Dr. Abdul Mannan, Dhaka Metropolitan North Secretary Mahfuzur Rahman, Dr. Fakhruddin Manik, Manjurul Islam, Central President of Chhatrashibir, poet Abdul Hai Shikdar, Dhaka Journalist Union President Shahidul Islam and other people from different walks of life.
Later, the body of the deceased was taken to his native village in Kaliganj of Gazipur district and buried in the family cemetery after the second prayer after Asr. The member of the Central Majlis Shura and Nayeb Ameer of Dhaka Metropolitan South attended the prayer. Dr. Helal Uddin, Shura member of the Central Majlis, Amir of Gazipur city Professor Muhammad Jamal Uddin, Shura member of the Central Majlis and Gazipur District Amir Dr. Md. Jahangir Alam, Tangail District Amir Ahsan Habib Masud, Central Majlis Shura Member and Dhaka Metropolitan South Assistant Secretary Delawar Hossain and Dr. Abdul Mannan, Central Majlis Shura Member and Dhaka Metropolitan North Assistant Secretary Dr. Fakhruddin Manik, Gazipur Metropolitan Nayeb Ameer Muhammad Khairul Hasan, Metropolitan Secretary ASM Farooq, Gazipur District Nayeb Ameer Muhammad Abdul Hakim, District Nayeb Ameer Maulana Shefaul Haque, Narsingdi District Secretary Muhammad Amjad Hossain, Dhaka Metropolitan South Working Council Member Abdul Salam, Dhaka Metropolitan South Majlis Shura Member Shaheen Ahmed Khan, North Literary Culture Department President Abidur Rahman, Literary Culture Department Metropolitan South Secretary Mahbub Mukul, current and former directors of Saimum. Kaliganj Upazila Ameer Maulana Mahmudul Hasan, Upazila Nayeb Ameer Aftab Uddin, Upazila Secretary Tajul Islam and relatives and villagers of the deceased were present.
Professor Mujibur Rahman said, we seek forgiveness for the departed soul and pray to Almighty Allah to bear this grief for all his family. I am praying that poet Asad bin Hafiz will be rewarded in the court of Rabbul Alamin for all his excellent writings. I wish Jannatul Ferdows to poet Asad bin Hafiz, one of Bengali literature’s famous poets of the 80s, one of the personalities of the cultural arena and former director of Saimum Art Group.
