Chief Adviser’s Press Secretary Shafiqul Alam has released some information on social media to prove that the interim government is not ‘NGO-governed’.

In a post from his verified Facebook account on Friday (November 8), Alam said only four advisors have NGO background.

He said, ‘There is a continuous campaign on social media calling the interim government NGO-ruled. There are also comments from some eminent persons.’

Shafiqul Alam said, ‘They are promoting the idea that the advisory council headed by Professor Muhammad Yunus has an excess of people from non-governmental organization (NGO) backgrounds.’

He said official records of the 21-member advisory council show that only four advisers have NGO background, two of whom are top lawyers.

Shafiul Alam said in his Facebook post that there are at least nine retired government officials including five former bureaucrats, two diplomats and two senior military officers.

The press secretary said, among the rest, a former attorney general, a freedom fighter, two student leaders, four academicians and writers and two microfinance and social business pioneers.
