Mir Mahfuzur Rahman (Mugdha) is one of the students whose death caused the most stir in the quota reform movement. On July 18, he was shot and died in Azampur, Uttara, Dhaka. On that day, he was giving bottles of water to the protesting students. He was running to everyone with water to wipe his tear gas burning eyes with his T-shirt sleeve.
But just 15 minutes later, a bullet pierced his forehead while resting in the midday heat; Martyred university students impressed. American media CNN has published a report on Monday (August 12) describing the death of Mochadar.
Madhu was rescued by his friends and other protesters and taken to the hospital soon after the incident, but it was too late. “I just hugged him and burst into tears,” Mir Mahbubur Rahman, the twin brother of Mochadar, told CNN softly.
On July 18, the video of Madhudar giving water to Uttara’s Azampur before his death went viral on social media and was shared by millions of people. This video encourages more people to take to the streets calling for justice.
Citing analysis by local media and various organizations, CNN reported that peaceful protests over quota reforms in government jobs in Bangladesh turned into a movement to oust longtime Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina. At least 300 people lost their lives in the resulting violence and clashes.
Farah Persia, a 23-year-old protester who works at a technology company in Dhaka, told CNN that the killing was going on and everyone was silent. As a result, we had to stand up for ourselves and for democracy. I am amazed at how much power we (ordinary people) hold. Because for many years we have all felt powerless.
After the situation calmed down with the resignation of Sheikh Hasina, the families of many of those killed in the agitation are now demanding accountability for the deaths of their loved ones.
From eating, sleeping, studying together to sharing clothes; The twin brothers are charming and sweet as if they were inseparable from birth.
Snigdha says, he (Mugdha) was not only my brother but also my best friend. He was a part of my body, we did everything together.
According to CNN, Madhucha, a math graduate, was pursuing an MBA, while Snigda was pursuing a law degree. The twin brothers were planning to move to Italy to further their studies and dream of traveling around Europe on a motorcycle. To save money for the trip, they were doing social media marketing for online freelancer hub Fiver. But now Snigga and their elder brother Mir Mahmudur Rahman (Deepta) are facing a turbulent time without Madhaka.
At the time of his death, the ID card of the university was around his neck. His family kept the dried blood-stained ID card as a symbol of that dark day. They are trying to find solace from the impact that the protest movement has had.
Snigdha was saying, because of him (Mugdha) many people got the strength to protest. He always said, I will make my parents proud one day. That moment has arrived.
