NASA sends tiny satellite to study climate mystery

Due to climate change, various natural disasters are occurring in different parts of the world. Scientists also fear that the North Pole or the Arctic region may become ice-free within the next decade. Various types of research are going on to know more detailed information about this. In continuation of this, for the first time, the American space research agency NASA has sent a satellite the size of a shoe box to measure the temperature of the polar regions of the Earth.

NASA scientist Karen St. Germain said the new satellite is designed to improve our ability to understand what’s happening in the polar regions, what’s changing in the climate. The satellite is about the size of a shoebox. The satellite was launched from an area called Mahia in northern New Zealand using an Electron rocket developed by Rocket Lab. The satellite will collect information on clouds, moisture or ice melting in the polar regions through infrared from over the Arctic and Antarctic.

Tristan L’Equiere, a scientist at the University of Wisconsin-Madison in the United States, said that the data collected by the satellite will help various researches conducted to control the temperature of the earth. It is very important to identify the process of heat transfer from tropical to polar regions.

According to NASA, the mission, named Prefire, will analyze things like clouds, humidity or melting ice in the polar regions. So far, various models of climate change have been developed based on the theory. Now it will be possible to create new models through satellite data. This satellite will also work to tell how the sea level may be in the future. Several small satellites will be launched to learn the secrets of climate.
