Narendra Modi has been sworn in as the Prime Minister of India for the third consecutive term. This oath was taken in the courtyard of Rashtrapati Bhavan in New Delhi today at 7:15 PM local time on Sunday. Indian President Daupadi Murmu administered oath to Narendra Modi.
About 8000 distinguished persons from the country and abroad were invited in this event. Among the guests are presidents and prime ministers of several countries.
Security has been beefed up in New Delhi on the occasion of the grand swearing-in ceremony. The media is active around this event, discussions are going on about how the new government will be. Important aspects of Modi’s swearing-in ceremony are highlighted:
1. Bangladesh Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina arrived in New Delhi on Saturday to attend Narendra Modi’s swearing-in ceremony. Apart from him, the government and heads of state of neighboring countries and several other countries in the Indian Ocean region also attended the event. Among them are Sri Lankan President Ranil Wickremesinghe, Maldives President Mohamed Muijju, Seychelles Vice President Ahmed Afif, Mauritius Prime Minister Pravind Kumar Jagannath, Nepal Prime Minister Pushpakamal Dahal Prachand, Bhutan Prime Minister Tshering Togbe.
2. India’s ‘Neighbourhood First’ policy and ‘Sagar’ vision have been given top priority and the leaders of neighboring countries have been invited to Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s third consecutive swearing-in ceremony, according to the country’s Ministry of External Affairs. Sagar Vision or ‘Security and Growth for All in the Region’ is a policy of the Modi government to maintain geopolitical relations with the Indian Ocean countries.
3. Narendra Modi’s swearing-in ceremony in 2014 and 2019 was attended by leaders of South Asian Association for Regional Cooperation (SAARC) and Bay of Bengal Initiative for Multi-Sectoral Technical and Economic Cooperation (BIMSTEC) countries respectively.
4. Narendra Modi broke the record of India’s first prime minister and Congress leader Jawaharlal Nehru by taking oath as the prime minister for the third time after serving two full terms in the government.
5. Security has been beefed up in capital New Delhi on the occasion of the swearing-in ceremony. A section of Rashtrapati Bhavan has been declared a no-fly zone today and tomorrow. An additional 1,100 traffic policemen have been deployed to maintain normal traffic flow and smooth movement of VIPs.
6. The swearing-in ceremony followed rounds of meetings between the leaders of the BJP and its alliance partner National Democratic Alliance (NDA) to decide which ministry. Other senior party leaders, including BJP leader Amit Shah, Rajnath Singh and BJP president JP Nadda, spoke to leaders of NDA ally Chandrababu Naidu’s Telugu Desam Party (TDP) and Nitish Kumar’s Janata Dal-United (JD-U) and Eknath Shinde’s Shiv Sena.
7. According to a PTI report, TDP’s Ram Mohan Naidu, JD-UR Lalan Singh, Sanjay Jha and Ram Nath Tagore and Lok Janshakti Party’s (Ram Vilas) Chirag Paswan are set to get cabinet berths.
8. Leaders of the Congress-led opposition ‘India’ coalition are expressing doubts whether Modi’s coalition government will survive this time. India Alliance won 233 seats in this year’s Lok Sabha. There is talk that they secretly sent proposals to Chandrababu Naidu and Nitish Kumar to form the government. Meanwhile, the main opposition Congress has warned the BJP to take appropriate action at the appropriate time.
9. President Draupadi Murmu is hosting a dinner for foreign guests after the swearing-in ceremony of Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
