Metrorail used to run 6 days a week until now. It was closed on Friday. Citizens of the capital will get Metro service on Fridays from September 20.
On Wednesday (September 18), the matter was informed in an office order signed by Khondkar Ehteshamul Kabir, company secretary of Dhaka Mass Transit Company Limited (DMTCL), the company managing Metrorail.
According to the office order, metro trains of MRT Line-6 operated and maintained under DMTCL will run every Friday from Uttara North to Motijheel from 3.30 pm to 9 pm and from Motijheel to Uttara North from 3.50 pm to 9 pm. A decision has been taken to move on the scheduled headway up to 40 minutes.
It is further said that in this context, every Friday from September 20 onwards, Metrorail has been requested to take necessary measures to operate as per the above time.
According to DMTCL, 2 lakh 75 thousand passengers travel by metro rail every day. Officials of the organization claim that they have the capacity to transport 3 lakh passengers every day. They feel that the journey of the passengers who came to shop from Uttara to Newmarket, Caravan Bazaar, Bashundhara City on Friday will now be smooth.
