Power supply from Adani Group’s power plant in Jharkhand, India has been completely shut down due to a mechanical fault. This has resulted in shortage of electricity supply in Bangladesh.
Bangladesh Power Development Board (PDB) Member (Generation) Khandkar Mokammel Hossain confirmed this information to The Daily Star.
He said, ‘Adani authorities have informed that they have shut down the unit after finding a major leak in a water circulation pump valve in the plant’s boiler. That’s why it will take at least two to three days for them to cool down the boiler and start repairing it.’
Earlier, the other unit of the plant has been closed for routine maintenance since the Eid holidays, which is likely to be operational in the first week of July.
Khandkar Mokammel Hossain said, ‘Now both units of 1600 MW Adani power plant are completely closed. We are getting less electricity from coal-fired power plants. One of the two units of Payra power plant is under maintenance. The load shedding situation in the country has remained stable so far. Less than a thousand megawatts.’
