According to sources, after the arrest of Gas Babu on June 6, the murder incident started taking a new turn. Shaheen’s name started to be covered. Many officials of the administration used to rush to Shaheen’s resort in Elangi village of Jhenaidah Kotchandpur. The question arises, why did they go there? What was the power of Shaheen? Meanwhile, Jhenaidah District Awami League Relief and Social Welfare Secretary Kazi Kamal Ahmed Babu alias Gas Babu, who was arrested in the case of kidnapping with intent to kill MP Anwarul Azim Anar, gave a statement. Four of the five arrested in this case have confessed their responsibility. Mintu, the other arrested accused, is in 8-day remand.
Police produced Babu in court on Friday during 7-day remand. After that Babu accepted responsibility for the incident and agreed to give a statement under Section 164 of the Criminal Procedure Code, the investigating officer of the case DB Police Senior Assistant Commissioner (AC) Mahfuzur Rahman applied to record the statement.
In view of the application, Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Mohammad Jasim ordered to record his statement and send him to jail. Earlier on the night of June 6, a team of Dhaka DB arrested Babu from Adarshpara area of Jhenaidah city. Later on June 9 Babu was produced in the court by the police. After that, DB Police Senior Assistant Commissioner Mahfuzur Rahman requested to remand him for 10 days for proper investigation of the case. After the hearing, the court of Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Mehdi Hasan granted his 7-day remand.
On Tuesday afternoon, Jhenaidah District Awami League General Secretary Saidul Karim Mintu was detained by DB Police from Dhanmondi for questioning. As his involvement in the incident was found during interrogation, he was arrested in this case on Thursday. Senior Assistant Commissioner of DB Police Mahfuzur Rahman presented him in the Dhaka Chief Metropolitan Magistrate’s Court and applied for a 10-day remand for proper investigation of the case. After the hearing, Dhaka Additional Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Tofazzal Hossain granted his 8-day remand. Friday was the second day of remand.
On May 23, Syed Amanullah Aman alias Shimul Bhuiyan, Faisal Ali Saji alias Tanveer Bhuiyan and Celesti Rahman were arrested in this case. The court granted their 13-day remand in two cases. All three of them admitted responsibility for the incident and gave statements in court on separate days. They are currently in jail. MP Annar went to India on May 12. The next day on May 13, he was murdered in a flat in Sanjiba Garden, Newtown area of Kolkata. The incident came to light on May 22. On that day, Anar’s daughter Mumtarin Ferdous Doreen (24) filed a kidnapping case against the unknown accused at Sherbangla Nagar police station in the capital.

According to local sources, after the arrest of General Secretary of Jhenaidah District Awami League Saidul Karim Mintu on suspicion of involvement in MP Anna’s murder, the conflict within the party came to the fore. After the arrest of Kazi Kamal Ahmed alias Gas Babu, there has been a renewed fear of extremism in the entire region. Although the incident of Anna’s murder came to light on May 22, family members including personal assistant Abdur Rauf took action to rescue the missing MP from May 14. MP’s friend from Calcutta made DG at Gopal police station on May 18. When Annar was crossing the border in a rickshaw van on May 12, she was carrying some small luggage. But that baggage is still useless.
Babu’s confession: Judge Mohammad Jaseem of Dhaka’s Chief Metropolitan Magistrate (CMM) court recorded the statement of Kazi Kamal Ahmed Babu in the court. Earlier, the Dhaka Metropolitan Detective Police requested to present Babu in the court and record his confessional statement under Section 164. After recording the statement, the court ordered to send the accused to jail. According to the related sources, Babu’s involvement came up in the confessional statement given by Shimul Bhuiya, one of the accused earlier. In his deposition, Babu’s involvement in financial transactions is found in connection with kidnapping and murder by luring the victim.
In DB’s interrogation, Babu said that Shimul came to Bangladesh from Kolkata on May 15 and contacted him on WhatsApp on the night of May 16. On May 17, they met in Shimul’s car near the Faridpur Expressway and had a secret meeting about the photos of the victim’s abduction and subsequent murder, money transactions. Meanwhile, the MP demands the money demanded from Shimul Babu as part of the plan after the murder of Anar. Later, Babu assured to give partial 23 of the money.
