The Khilafat Majlis has called for the strengthening of relief activities in the flood-affected areas of North Bengal including Sylhet-Sunamganj and Greater Sylhet and Rangpur-Kurigram.
The call was made in a statement signed by Khilafat Majlis Publicity and Information Secretary Engineer Abdul Hafiz Khosru on Friday (June 21).
In the statement, the party’s Amir Maulana Abdul Bashit Azad and Secretary General Dr. Ahmad Abdul Quader expressed his condolences to the flood-affected people and said that millions of people in Sylhet, Sunamganj and Greater Sylhet have become waterlogged due to heavy rains and water from India. Meanwhile, the flood situation in North Bengal including Kurigram, Rangpur is deteriorating due to the opening of Farakka dam gates. In this situation, significant relief activities are not being noticed by the government in the flood-affected areas. No such activity of the government can be noticed to help the distressed people.
The leaders demanded urgent action and allocation from the government for the necessary relief activities in the flood affected areas. At the same time, the leaders called upon all the leaders and workers of the Khilafat Majlis and the able-bodied people of the society to help the flood-affected people for strong relief activities.
