BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia has been admitted to hospital. He was admitted to the capital’s Evercare Hospital around 3:30 pm on Friday. He has been admitted to the Coronary Care Unit (CCU) of the hospital.
Shayrul Kabir Khan, a member of the BNP Chairperson’s media wing, told Prothom Alo this Saturday morning. He said, ‘We have yet to know anything about the nature of Khaleda Zia’s illness.’
Shayrul Kabir Khan said that his doctor Professor A ZM Zahid Hossain is with the BNP Chairperson.
Before this, Khaleda Zia was admitted to Evercare Hospital in the capital on May 2. At that time, the doctors kept him in the CCU and treated him for two days.
79-year-old Khaleda Zia is suffering from various complications including arthritis, heart disease, lung, liver, kidney, diabetes.
Khaleda Zia was admitted to Evercare Hospital in Dhaka on August 9 last year. After more than 5 months of treatment, he returned home on January 11. At that time, his family appealed to the government to take him abroad for better treatment, but permission was not received. In this context, BNP chairperson suffering from liver cirrhosis was operated on blood vessels on October 27 last year.
Khaleda Zia’s blood vessels were operated on by bringing three specialist doctors from the US. He was taken home after more than five months at which point his health stabilized somewhat.
The BNP chairperson, convicted in two cases of corruption, was imprisoned on February 8, 2018. He was imprisoned for more than two years.
Former Prime Minister Khaleda Zia, who was convicted in the Zia Orphanage Trust and Zia Charitable Trust corruption cases, was granted conditional release by the government on March 25, 2020. Since then, the government has been suspending his sentence for six months and extending his release period
