BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia has been in prison since 2018. Although he was initially in prison, later he is in Gulshan’s house Feroza. Since being imprisoned, 14 Eids have been spent in one room till now. Sometimes in old Dhaka jail, sometimes in hospital cabin, and sometimes in Firoz. This is how 14 Eids are spent in one room.
He was also imprisoned on Monday, Eid-ul-Azha day. He met the senior leaders of the party only once.
Begum Zia has been ill for a long time. Party leaders have been agitating for his better treatment and release. After meeting last Monday, the party leaders said that Khaleda Zia’s physical condition is not very good. On the day of Eid, senior leaders of the party extended Eid greetings on his behalf and prayed for his well-being.
Khaleda Zia took home cooked food on Eid day. Although unable to go out, the family’s small children accompanied Begum Zia. He spent a lot of time talking with his nephews and grandchildren.
On February 8, 2018, Begum Zia was taken to the abandoned Old Central Jail on Nazim Uddin Road in Old Dhaka on a court order. He spent Eid-ul-Fitr and Eid-ul-Azha that year in that abandoned prison.
In 2019, Eid-ul-Fitr and Eid-ul-Fitr were spent in the same room of the Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Medical University (BSMMU) hospital while in captivity.
Begum Zia was conditionally kept at her home in Feroza, Gulshan on March 25, 2020 in the face of coronavirus infection. He celebrated two Eids that year at home.
In 2021, he spent the day of Eid-ul-Fitr in the hospital room. But during Eid-ul-Azha he was in Firoz. The next 2022, 2023 and this year’s Eid-ul-Fitr and Eid-ul-Azha were celebrated by Feroza.
