According to unofficial results, reformist candidate Masoud Pezeshkian has won Iran’s presidential election. He has been elected Iran’s 14th president by a wide margin over conservative Saeed Jalili, blessed by Iran’s Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei.

Pezheshkian received 1.7 million votes and his conservative rival Saeed Jalili 1.4 million votes in the second round of elections held on Friday, according to private sources.

It is known that this time the voter turnout was also high. Almost 50% of voters voted. Earlier in the first phase election held on June 28, the voter turnout was around 40 percent.

Counting begins immediately after the polling schedule ends.

Four candidates competed in the elections held on June 28, but none of them got more than 50 percent of the votes, leading to a run-off.

2 crore 45 lakh voters voted in the June 28 election. Among them, the pro-reformist candidate Pezheshkian got 1.4 million votes. On the other hand, former chief nuclear negotiator and revolutionary principle follower Saeed Jalili got 9.4 million votes.
