On August 5, Sheikh Hasina’s government fell in the face of a mass uprising by students. Jamaat-e-Islami was banned by the Awami League government just four days ago. However, after the change in political status, the ban on Jamaat was lifted.
Jamaat-e-Islami is now continuing its activities like other political parties as there is no ban. However, even though Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami is unbanned, India will not have any kind of relationship or contact with the group.
Citing multiple sources, the country’s media ABP Live has claimed this in a report. According to the report, India has decided to stand by the decision taken not to establish ties with the Jamaat. India will not deviate from this decision.
Citing an official of the country, the media reported that India fears that Jamaat-e-Islami and the banned organization Hizb ut-Tahrir will soon enter mainstream politics. It could threaten India’s security.
He said that if the Prime Minister Narendra Modi and the chief adviser to the United Nations General Assembly. If there is a meeting between Muhammad Yunus, then Modi will discuss the matter. Both are scheduled to attend the UN General Assembly on September 22-23.
Incidentally, Sheikh Hasina’s government banned Jamaat in 2013. At that time the registration of the party was canceled on the charge of violating the secularism of the constitution. After that Jamaat was not allowed to participate in 2014, 2018 and 2024 elections.
