Environmentalist organization Sabuj Andolan has commented that India wants to carry out genocide in Bangladesh by releasing the dam water without warning.

The organization made this comment in a meeting on Wednesday.

Bappi Sardar, chairman of the Green Movement, said, ‘All the rivers that flow through two or more countries starting from any part of the world are called international rivers. According to the 1997 United Nations Watercourses Convention, international rivers cannot be used in a way that harms other countries. Every state is responsible for respecting international law. But as India deliberately opened the Teestar Dam on Tuesday (August 20) along with Feni district of Bangladesh and on Wednesday (August 21), various districts of Feni, Bandarban, Chittagong, Rangpur divisions have already submerged under water.

He said, ‘Sluicegates were opened without any warning and many people died as well as drowning. Millions of people are homeless, animals and birds have died, and crops have been destroyed.’

In the meeting held at the restaurant in the capital, under the chairmanship of actor Uday Khan, the director of Sabuj Andolan, Mohsin Sikdar Pavel, Secretary General of Sabuj Andolan Management Council, Abdulla Al Mamun, founder and chairman of Pradeshkar Bangladesh, Khalid Saifullah, Joint General Secretary and Organizing Secretary of Dhaka Reporters Unity, Morchalin Islam Babu, Organizing Secretary, also spoke. Finance Secretary Alamgir Hossain Palash, Women and Children Affairs Secretary Sahin Ara Sultana and others.

Speakers in the meeting also said, ‘All the rich people of the society should stand by the water-affected people. Releasing dam water without any warning is completely illegal. Besides, most of the rivers in Bangladesh are encroached and polluted, so water has entered the local areas more. All rivers should be freed from encroachment and digging should be done immediately.’
