The High Court has ordered the lower court to decide within 10 days on the plea filed by former Prime Minister of Pakistan Imran Khan and his wife Bushra Bibi seeking suspension of sentence in the Iddat case.
The Islamabad High Court gave this order on Thursday. At the same time, the High Court has also ordered to dispose of the petition challenging the sentence within one month. Justice Miangul Hasan Aurangzeb gave these orders after hearing several applications filed by Imran Khan and Bushra Bibi.
In this case, Imran Khan applied to the district and session court to declare the pending order. At the same time, he requested to hear the appeal. Meanwhile, Bushra appealed to the lower court to suspend the sentence.
On February 3, Imran Khan and his wife Bushra Bibi were sentenced to seven years in jail by a temporary court in Rawalpindi’s Adiala Jail for marrying in violation of Sharia law without completing the Iddat period.
The court sentenced Imran and Bushra in the case filed by Bushra Bibi’s ex-husband Khawar Manekar. In the case, Maneka alleged that Bushra Bibi married Imran Khan without completing the prescribed period (iddat) after divorcing him, which is a clear violation of Sharia law.
