Hundreds of shots were fired from Myanmar on a passenger trawler going from Saint Martin in Cox’s Bazar to Teknaf. Although the trawler was hit by bullets at various places, there was no casualty. Apart from this, bullets fired from Myanmar have also arrived at Jetty Ghat of Shahpari Island.
On Wednesday afternoon, two trawlers carrying 70 passengers from St. Martin reached Golar Char in Naf river Badramokam estuary on their way to Teknaf.
Abdur Rashid, President of the Trawler Owners Association of this route, said that two trawlers carrying passengers from Saint Martin to Teknaf were fired upon from Myanmar when they approached the jetty on Shahpari Island. Hundreds were shot. The trawler was hit by bullets in various places. However, there were no casualties. Later the trawler had to anchor at the jetty and disembark the passengers. At this time, shots were fired at the jetty.
He also said that Teknaf Shahpari island is plying the alternative route through Golarchar, where they are also firing. Earlier, the Teknaf-Saint-Martin ferry was stopped due to shelling in the Naf River. Later, thinking about the people of the island, boat traffic started through alternative routes.
Trawler sailors said that on Wednesday afternoon, two trawlers owned by Mohammad Rubel and Abdur Rashid left Saint Martin for Teknaf with 70 passengers. At that time, they were shot when they reached Golar Char in Badramokam estuary of Shahpari Island in Naf river.
Trawler Majhi Abdur Rahman said more than a hundred shots were fired.
No official statement was received from the Coast Guard on this matter.
However, in this context, BGB’s Teknafer-2 battalion commander Lt. Col. Mohiuddin Ahmed said, ‘We are on alert at the border. After looking into the issue of firing from Myanmar, further action will be taken.’
Teknaf upazila executive officer (UNO) said. Adnan Chowdhury said, 2 trawlers from Myanmar were fired again. Bullets have arrived in our waters. This is very sad. The higher authorities have been informed in this regard. Further action will be taken after the decision given by them.
Earlier, several trawlers sailing from Teknaf to Saint Martin were fired upon due to the ongoing conflict in Myanmar since the beginning of June.
