Home Minister Asaduzzaman Khan has called upon the protesting students to return to class demanding reform of quota in government jobs. He made this request in response to questions from journalists in his office on Thursday (July 11). At the same time, he also hinted to be strict if people create hardship in the name of movement.
Requesting the students not to cause trouble on the streets, he said, the quota agitators seem to be crossing the limit for several days. They should not unnecessarily crowd the roads, waste their education so that they do not sit. Request them to go back to their respective universities. There is no need to trouble them on the road. The court wants to hear them. We are paying attention to their requests and demands. They will go to the court by responding to the Chief Justice’s call.
Calling for withdrawal of the programme, the Home Minister said that many people have started running to use them (agitators). Call off the movement without stepping into their conspiracy. They are talented boys, why would they go against the state?
When asked whether the police will take any action if the student movement is ongoing, the home minister said, when does the police go into action? If there is damage to property, if there is arson, if there is public suffering, then the police will not sit still.
Earlier, on Wednesday (July 10), the Appellate Division gave a one-month stay on the High Court’s verdict. In immediate response, the agitating students said that they will not accept any pending decision. At the same time, the blockade program was announced again on Thursday afternoon.
