The hanging bridge in Rangamati has been submerged due to the rise in the water level of Kaptai Lake.
Rangamati Tourism Authority has temporarily banned crossing the Hanging Bridge from Friday morning.
Rangamati Tourism CorporationManager Alok Bikash Chakma said: “The bridge sank on Thursday night. We have banned tourists from moving on the bridge since Friday morning.”
Baghaichari upazila has been more affected by the flood. About 10,000 people are trapped in the water. However, the water has started to recede since Friday.
Army and BNP leaders are distributing food among the flood victims.
Meanwhile, communication with Sajek and the upazila headquarters has been activated.
The communication on the Dighinala road of Khagrachari is still closed due to the flood, but locals said traffic is likely to be normal by the afternoon.
However, most of the tourists have left Sajek by boat.
Sajek Union Parishad Secretary Biswajit Chakraborty said: “The Sajek road has been reopened as the water level has receded since morning. ”
The flood has also affected the residents of low-lying areas in the Longdu upazila.
Although the water has receded, communication with Khagrachhari remains cut off due to water on the Merung road in Dighinala.
Naniarchar police station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Azam Uddin Mahmud said: “A child drowned at Naniarchar upazila on Thursday evening.”
The water level in Kaptai Lake has been recorded 105.84 MSL (Mean Sea Level).
Due to the water in the lake, Kaptai Power Station’s electricity production has increased.
According to the authorities, it is currently producing 218 megawatts of electricity.
