The police recovered the hanging body of an old man named Pranay Chandra Sutradhar (75), an Indian passport holder, in Sherpur.
The incident took place on Sunday evening in Gridanarayanpur area of the city.
It is known that deceased Prannoy Chandra had come from India to visit his brother’s house. He is the son of deceased Hirendra Sutradhar of Nandina area of Jamalpur district of Bangladesh. In 1967 he left Bangladesh and went to India. He is a resident of Cooch Behar, Meghalaya, India. Family said he has 2 daughters and wife.
According to the police and his family sources, the deceased Prannoy Chandra came to visit Bangladesh last Ramadan and his brother Dr. Piyush Chandra was staying at Sutradhar’s residence in Sherpur. Everyone in the house went out on Sunday and came in the evening to find the dead body hanging from the hook of the fan in the drawing room. After informing the police, the police recovered the body at night and sent it to Sherpur Sadar Hospital morgue.
Brother of the deceased Dr. Piyush and his wife’s claims – along with Pranay, his wife and children in India had family quarrels. They think that they can commit suicide because of this. There was no bad relationship with them.
Sherpur Sadar Hospital Medical Officer (RMO) Khairul Kabir Suman said that the body of Indian national Pranai was brought to the morgue at night. How he died will be known after the post-mortem.
Sherpur Superintendent of Police Akramul Hossain said that the body of the deceased has been sent to the morgue for autopsy. Investigation is ongoing. I will take legal action if his family sues.
