President of the People’s Rights Council (Part) Nurul Haque Noor said, ‘US has sanctioned former Army Chief General (retd) Aziz Ahmed for corruption and obstruction of democracy. General Aziz influenced and freed his brothers with a presidential pardon. Who made someone like him the army chief?’
‘The wealth of former police chief Benazir Ahmed is worth thousands of rupees. Who made him from DMP commissioner to RAB chief and police chief? The government and the head of government cannot avoid this responsibility.
Noor said these things at a protest rally organized by the People’s Rights Council Dhaka Metropolitan North and South in front of the National Press Club on Friday.
He said, ‘There are many other corrupt people like Aziz and Benazir. Be it businessmen, bureaucrats – everyone should be arrested. Along with political movement, social movement should be developed against corruption, looting and malfeasance. Fascism must be overthrown in a youth revolution in the streets by turning the social movement into a political movement. It requires bold street leadership. Like the liberation war, the youth should come forward.’
