The next season of Bangladesh Premier League (BPL) is going to have a surprise, it has already been heard in cricket circles. Now comes the official announcement. Three new franchises are coming in the new season. Comilla Victorians is the highest winning team.
Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) held an important board meeting on Thursday. From there came several big decisions. However, the BPL arrangement was at the center of the discussion.
The eleventh season of BPL will be played at the end of this year. This tournament is going to be held for the first time under the new Board of Directors of BCB. BCB wants to reorganize this event which has always caused controversy.
The directors discussed various issues with the aim of organizing the tournament above all controversies. BCB president Farooq Ahmed gave a summary of the plan at the press conference after the meeting.
BCB chief said, ‘I talked about BPL. There have been three changes in the team. There were some matters of rules, they were discussed. It will be finalized in a day or two.’
Farooq also explained a little about the changes coming in some franchises. He said, ‘Previous Comilla, great Dhaka, Chittagong Challengers are not in this year’s BPL. However, Rajshahi, who played a few seasons ago, is returning. And Dhaka and Chittagong are coming under new management.
He also said, ‘Dhaka can be called Dhaka Nawab. And an old franchise from Chittagong has returned, who played in the first or second season. A team from Rajshahi wants to play. We have selected three teams.’
Meanwhile, the fate of BPL fell into uncertainty after the change in the country’s political landscape. There was doubt about when exactly this event will start. However, Farooq Ahmed said that BPL start and draft time. He said, ‘The draft will be on October 14 and the season will start on December 27.’
